Asahi is a small child, playing happily by her family’s pond when she is suddenly dropped through the water and into another world. Her red hair and gray/purple eyes frighten the inhabitants of what seems to be a medieval version of Japan, but a young boy named Subaru befriends her and she’s taken to his house. Asahi barely has time to recover from these bewildering and shocking events when Asahi’s mother insists she take part in a ritual to honor the water dragon god. And then Asahi discovers she’s not just watching—she’s been selected for the sacrifice!
